Making Friends

Two unicorns wash upon a deserted island, and quickly begin to fall into their respective roles of gender performativity. An ominous collection of purple characters begins to dissolve into the scene, and as the unicorns become aware of their existence, they start to interact and teach these somewhat androgynous beings different gestures and actions. The whole thing becomes a chaotic, awkward mess. This collaborative piece was created by myself and Emily Lehman. The purple characters are portrayed by Molly Markow, Kirsten Heteji, Felicia Cannon, Jake Murray, and Brian Flight.

Chest - a beating heart, a rythymic breathing, an anxious suffocation, a comforting warmth, an absolute love. I completed this video using some characters and objects that I had created for a performance piece that I did (Frog Slippers and my Buffalo Heart). I'd say this is an offshoot/borderline continuation of that performance. The melding of characters, bodies, and a relationship is the crux of this video, with the juxtaposition of imagery creating a surreal puzzle that slips in and out of coherence.

120 eggs are cracked in this video, each in an interval of exactly one second. The video begins in sync with the audio, and slowly drifts out of sync as the cracking of eggs gives way to the echo of the aluminum pot and the distorted sounds of background voices.

This video is a strange and creepy pseudo-pornography. There are characters dressed up in weird masks and costumes, accompanied by music that ranges from terrifying to child-like. This imagery is paired with graphic and explicit content of me and partner engaging in sexual acts.

"SPORTS" is a video piece that I made for a sports related show curated by Jason Judd and George Barreca in the Man Cave Gallery. It contrasts the male on male contact in professional sports with blatant homoeroticism, which is ingrained in and denied by the heterosexual machismo of the athletes that participate in it. It's meant to point out the absurdity of sports being a straight, male activity when it's really only just slightly less gay than hardcore homosexual pornography.
